A new month is upon us which means more competitive building! Are you ready? Here’s the latest bunch of LEGO contests and challenges from all around the AFOL community for August 2025 to help you find some inspiration and motivation to build! There’s nothing quite like a theme or a prompt to take you out of your comfort zone and give you something new to try. Besides, contests are the perfect place to interact with other contestants and judges and get to know your fellow builders. And if you’re like me, a deadline helps make sure you actually finish!
We’ve listed them in order of deadline so you can plan your building time to the best advantage. Make sure to check the LEGO activity calendar for local challenges and events near you. Here at BrickNerd, some of our fondest memories, greatest building achievements, coolest trophies, and best friendships came from LEGO contests, so we really hope you try some of these out. We look forward to seeing what you build!
It’s the 10th anniversary of the annual Summer Joust!
There are plenty of fresh, exciting categories and returning favorites to ensure you have plenty of castle-building motivation for the next two months. So buckle on your brick separator and get to work!
Deadline: August 1st at 5:00pm EST
Prizes: Lots of epic sets, parts packs and custom MOC prizes!

The Middle Earth LEGO Olympics return on June 16th and with that it’s once again time to celebrate Tolkien’s rich universe through the medium of LEGO bricks.
MELO is a bracket-style contest with an initital round that is open to anyone. After that the Top 16 builders move on and are pitted against each other in elimination rounds.
The first round has ended but feel free to cheer on the remaining competitors!
Deadline: Final round ends August 4th
Prizes: 200USD worth of sets & custom trophies

Imagine if you could have the hobbits throw you a birthday party like they did for Bilbo Baggins!
Build the birthday of your deams while celebrating The Lord of the Rings! Come up with your best birthday party ideas – don’t forget to invite very old friends – and build a festive diorama set in The Shire.
Deadline: August 6th
Prizes: A Grand Prize of 10316 Rivendell, 10354 The Shire & 10367 Balrog Book Nook, all signed by the respective designers; two runner-up prizes of 10354 The Shire & 10367 Balrog Book Nook. Two other finalists will receive 10367 Balrog Book Nook.

With four categories and a few basic rules to follow, this sci-fi contest is perfect for the summer!
Design your own sci-fi faction and build rovers, spaceships a moon base or anything you want, as long as it matches your own faction’s color scheme!
Deadline: August 6th

Build a Crazy Soapbox Car!
This fun building contest for the summer holidays asks you to build your own soapbox racer!
It doesn’t have to be based on the LEGO City sets but you’re welcome to use their pieces. There is also a separate category for entries built by builders below the age of 18.
Deadline: August 10th
Prizes: 31168 Knight’s Castle (1st place); 31167 Haunted House (2nd place); 10363 Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine (3rd place); children and teens can win a soapbox racing package containing LEGO City sets 60460, 60458 & 60459

Mark it off on your calendar: RebelLUG’s annual intensely epic week-long vignette contest is back!
There should be plenty of exciting categories to keep the inspiration flowing throughout the week. Head to the RebelLug Discord to stay in the loop and catch the daily build themes as they come out!
Deadline: August 11th to 17th
Prizes: Epic prizes for both LUG members and non-members, and a raffle for all participants.

Time Drifters
Build the fastest vehicle of all time – literally! This Time Cruisers themed contest is asking you to build a racecar from across time and space – ninjas, pirates and astronauts are all welcome to compete in this wild race!

Soak up the sun with BrickCentral’s August theme: Summer Days. Share how your LEGO minifigures enjoy the season—beach trips, seaside adventures, ice cream breaks, or lazy afternoons under the sun.
