Quick Build #16: Mini Iron Man Bust
/As I said in my previous Quick Build article, sometimes there’s a LEGO set that attracts me a lot. This happened with 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust. Often, an upcoming set works like an inspiration for me to build something new and gives me all sorts of ideas.
This is why I decided to do a smaller version of the bust. Like always, I started with the helmet (or head when it’s a different character). Scale-wise, it seemed that a 2x2 footprint is perfect for the small scale.
Fun fact: the official 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust set was designed by LEGO designer Mark Stafford. There is an interesting story about how Mark Stafford “killed” the color teal back in the day, when he was faced with the challenge to choose between teal and purple. He had to pick one of the colors for an upcoming set and the other one was going to be removed from the LEGO color palette. You can read the whole story here on The Rambling Brick.
And this is not the fun part! Actually, back in 2018, what got me into making MOCs (some, like my girlfriend, might say heavily :D), there was a contest hosted by New Elementary called “Kill Teal.” The idea was to build a scene showing original ways of killing the color teal. When teal eventually returned,. I was so hyped about it and made few builds. I can say that my “career” in building my own creations (MOC) started because of this contest.
Here are my entries from that 2018, New Elementary contest that started it all:

But back to my mini Iron Man bust, the moment I found out that Mark Stafford made the official Iron Man Bust set, I just got a smile on my face because my building career had come full circle. You can check other sets built by Mark here.

Let’s get building! This tiny guy starts with the stand, and I tried to copy the original set version as close as I can.

Did you know the story about Mark Stafford and how he “killed“ teal? I love LEGO lore stories and would love to read more, so please share some if you have them.
