Festive Holiday Scene

Santa! It's Christmas everywhere you look these days, and I love it. This cheerful little scene by builder HCK_1974 has it all, a stunning tree adorned with festive decorations, a snowy lot where all the action is taking place, children and elves having a good time and a couple of adorable oversized reindeer. And of course santa flying by, spreading holiday cheer.

Königsfeld Manor

Welcome to Königsfeld Manor, in lovely Avalonia, Historica. Sometimes a parts shortage is all the inspiration you need for a brilliant solution, and sometimes that solution is better than the original plan. This lovely castle scene by builder MassEditor was originally going to have a pretty standard irregular border, but short of parts he came up with this very interesting "spilling over" border, which is the touch that makes this diorama really stand out.

Hagrid's Hut

Hagrid is one of my favorite characters in the Harry Potter universe. He's loyal, trustworthy and well meaning, if not sometimes a little misguided. But he has a heart of gold and proves it over and over again. He also has one of the coolest living quarters in the books and movies. Sure Lucius mocks it, but who would want to live in the Malfoy dungeon when you could live in this awesome little shack overlooking Hogwarts? A marvelous MOC by builder Wookieewarrior.

Occlumency

No, Harry doesn't have remedial potions (despite what you've heard). He is being taught the art of occlumency, the blocking of one's own mind from external forces. Professor Snape has reluctantly accepted this task, and so far Harry's not doing so well. I don't think I've ever seen so many diverse bottles and vessels together in such a small space as in this MOC by Vaionaut. Snape certainly keeps his shelves well stocked.

"Thank You For Your Cooperation, Good Night"

I was incredibly lucky enough to catch an advance screening of Robocop. We didn't know a thing about it, just the title (and of course we were intrigued) so we set out for Santa Barbara, an hour drive away. We didn't just love it, we were rocked to our core. This is one of the most iconic scenes, from Murphy's first night on patrol, brilliantly recreated by Grantmasters. I'd buy that for a dollar!

Small Moments From A Galaxy Far Far Away

I'm really enjoying this series of pictures inspired by Star Wars: A New Hope by builder CozzD. Some are recreations of iconic shots, some are fanciful interpretations, all are top notch lighting and photography. There's even a few with some additional visual effects like smoke, blaster bolts and impacts, all very well done. Click through to see several more pics.

Qar Riva

I really like the Indian flavor of this beautiful castle MOC by builder Blufiji. As much as I enjoy castle builds, they tend to start to all look alike after a while, but not this one. The color combinations are appealing too, a nice break from so much grey. The landscaping, sand and lush oasis set the structure off nicely, making this a scene rich in texture and backstory.

"Bounty Hunters, We Don't Need Their Scum"

It's an iconic scene in Star Wars The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader addressing a motley collection of bounty hunters. It was also our first peek at that character we were all so excited to see since we all had his action figure before the movie came out, Boba Fett. This recreation of the bridge of Vader's Super Star Destroyer Executor by builder Forgotten Days turned out amazing. Makes me wonder why this hasn't been an official set yet.

Tiny Island

This is a fun little diorama from builder Mark of Falworth that demonstrates you don't have to have a huge footprint to make an impact. The variation in the sand, the overall shape of the small island, the diversity of the trees and the staging make this all very appealing and compelling. You just want to know more about what's going on, and see the story play out.

Battle Of Nuenen

There's a level of realism and subtle detail in this MOC by ekjohnson1 that it looks a lot like a film miniature, and that's probably why it resonates so strongly with me. There's no garish colors, no overdone dramatic elements, no awkwardly staged battle, just a realistic layout and convincing details. Subtle things like the slight angles to the trees, power lines and the breakup of large areas with just the right amount of detail contribute to a stellar diorama.

Samurai Sanctuary

Just looking at this MOC is relaxing. This very tranquil MOC samurai sanctuary by builder NeverEnoughLego premiered at Brickfair VA, much to the appreciation of those there (I wish I could have been there). In my brief time in Japan I spent my time in the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, and I really wish I could have found a place like this to spend a little time, it's beautiful.

Welcome To Nordheim

I hope you brought your jacket (and maybe some armor, just in case). This is the chilly realm of Nordheim, a collaborative build by jsnyder002 and soccersnyderi. This premiered at BrickFair VA last week, and I'm certain it must have been quite the sight in person. It's 130×98 studs and weighs a whopping 87 pounds, that's a serious diorama. I highly recommend clicking through and checking out both of their photo streams for more pics, this thing is packed with detail and fun surprises.

Quidditch

This sort of build warms my heart. This phenomenal quidditch pitch by builder britsnap1 is a father/son project and obviously a labor of love. It measures over seven and a half feet and is populated with a full audience of sports loving minifigures. A fevered match is in progress, and while I can't really tell, I'm betting Gryffindor is winning. Harry Potter himself would be proud.

Harry Potter Quidditch arena. Based mainly on the 2nd H.P movie we have accurately recreated one of the most iconic pop culture sporting arenas of all time. This was such a fun father/son project to complete and measures almost 7.5 feet long.
Any Harry Potter fans out there? :)

I Find Your Lack Of Faith Disturbing

It's a Star Warsriffic morning here at BrickNerd, and I'm totally ok with that. This interior diorama by Boba-1980 is so clean that it's actually deceptive. There's a whole lot of detail and clever building going on here, in a compact and wonderful recreation from an iconic scene from the greatest movie of all time (my opinion of course, but your argument is invalid).

Park 0937

I love theme parks. I have a lifetime pass to LEGOLAND, am a member of DVC and have a passport to Disneyland. If I could visit this wonderfully imaginative park by Alexis Dos Santos I would. It's got everything, a flume ride, a circling train, a ferris wheel, a fantasy castle and more. All with a whimsical style that is so inviting. There's only one photo at this time, so you'll have to click through and scroll around to truly appreciate this.
