The Golden Deer

This MOC by markus19840420 looks right out of a fairytale or adventure game. The tranquil setting, the lush landscaping, the ornate tree and the scene unfolding of a mysterious figure approaching a majestic stag. There's a story unfolding here, and it draws you in. I would love to see this under cinematic lighting, it would be wondrous I'm sure.

Low Tide

This maritime MOC by O0ger packs a lot of detail and storytelling into a relatively small but very interesting footprint. You can practically smell the salt air and fish, hear the lapping water and ships bells. I don't recall seeing this alternating rows of cones roof technique before, it makes for a very cool texture, but the excellent use of the seaweed is what really sells this diorama. It sets the time and setting in a glance, very effective.

Sir Wizard Mecha-Nic Stronghold

This ramshackle castle punk fortress by builder hrtx is as confusing to the eye as it is appealing. So many angles, so much detail, so much storytelling, it's lovely. I don't know what they get up to in this complex structure, but one look and you ache with curiosity. I guess that's why it's a stronghold, to keep you from finding out.

Mining Pandora

You may have wondered what happened after the events on Pandora in the movie Avatar. Well, here's a possible scenario not only in story, but in a jaw-dropping diorama of significant scale. Builder The Steads imagines a future where after promising to have no military presence and to be very good (really Na'avi, don't trust humans, we're really no good) humans were allowed to return and do a little mining. Medieval Smithy

Life in medieval times must have been a strange combination of difficult yet simple. Not that the art of smithing is easy in any way, it's hard work all the way back to the quarry, but you knew if you took this rock, smashed it up, built a really hot fire and threw it in, you'd end up with some metal that you could then shape (yes, I super simplified the art of smelting). And you could sell or trade that metal stuff for goods or food you didn't make or grow yourself, like the smith depicted in this beautiful MOC by Julandrius, seems pretty blissful. Sure the average life expectancy was 31 years and every other small country around you wanted you dead, but at least when you sat down at a meal everyone didn't pull out their damn iPhone.

Expanded Wretched Hive Of Scum And Villainy

Builder I Scream Clone is back and has expanded on this brilliant Mos Eisley Cantina MOC from last year and it's just as wretched. It's instantly recognizable as everyone's favorite desert planet (that is of course you're a fan of Jakku, and really, who's not?) and must look awesome side by side with the cantina section. Although, according to the description this is part of a 24 baseplate diorama, and I count six in this and six in the previous. Does that mean we've only seen half of it? If so I can't wait to see the rest (and eventually the whole thing assembled)!

Update: Ask and you shall receive. I Scream Clone just posted his whole section of the collaborative build. It's enormous and gorgeous. I really want to see this in person, especially when the entire collab build is assembled, it's going to be epic.

Epic Struggle In The Desert

While playing Elder Scrolls Online The Thieves' Guild builder Xenomurphy stumbled upon this scene. He was so inspired he decided to recreate it in bricks. It shows the aftermath of a great struggle between men and beast, and in the end, nobody won. This is storytelling in a single image/MOC and it's really well done. Oh, and that curved sand dune is especially cool.

Misty Night On The Bayou

Lighting and atmosphere add so much to a photo, and it doesn't have to be a complex setup to be very effective. This awesome diorama shot by MassEditor was accomplished with simple lighting and a liberal application of a fog machine, but the effect is stunning, and sets a perfect mood. Can't you just hear the frogs and insects? The faint, slow banjo playing in the distance? The MOC itself is very good, but combined with creative photography it's a home run.

Ernagh's Exotic Edible Economic Experiment

Castle builders never cease to amaze me. Not only is the bar being continually raised for build quality and techniques, but the stories get more and more elaborate and deep. This diorama by builder aardwolf_83 is a real treat for the eyes. A highlight of course is that net-based contoured roof and striking silhouette of the house, but take a look at those trees, they're a wonder. Click through for more pics, and a quirky and fun story.

Bigger On The Inside (And Pretty Big Everywhere Else)

I found it pretty serendipitous that I should have Doctor Who in the back of my mind (I'm in pre-production of an animated short) when I scroll down my Flickr feed and see this. Everyone knows the TARDIS is bigger on the inside, but have you seen a MOC as big as this one by Librarian-Bot depicting it? Not only that but a fantastic street scene loaded with references to the show. This has given me so much inspiration! Click through for many more pics, it's worth it.

Super Speedway

That's right race fans, this is how you display cars! Builder Brick Knight brings us the Super Speedway, and it's a seriously detailed and huge MOC. There's something for everyone here, including some super hero and celebrity cameos, race action, crash action and of course lots of snacks. Do yourself a favor and click through for tons more pics of this terrific MOC.

Pay Attention Class...

Of course LEGO astronauts go to space academy, they have to learn the ways of space somewhere. And of course there's lecture halls at the academy, they're perfect for group learning. So why we've never seen a space academy lecture room before now seems baffling. Thankfully builder justin_m_winn came along to fix this oversight. Three cheers for higher education!

Leonardo's Workshop

Nobody would dispute the contributions of Leonardo Da Vinci to the art, science, design and medical worlds, as well as others. The man was an absolute genius and changed the world forever. This MOC by MolochBaal imagines what his workshop might have looked like, and it's how I always imagined it. I love the fact that many of the disciplines Leonardo practiced are present, from war to fine art.

Visit The Riviera

This MOC by Snaillad reminds me of a postcard or possibly a scene in a Bond movie, either way it makes me want to take a trip. I really like the mix of colors, the suggestion of old and new and the rich textures throughout this MOC. All it needs is a little accordion music, the sounds of seagulls and lapping water and the chatter and bustle of a European street and the scene is set.

Echo Base

Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back is widely regarded as the best of all the Star Wars films. My personal favorite is A New Hope, (gotta love the original) but I love Empire too. This diorama from markus19840420 looks like a movie set, in fact it's got my juices going for some Hoth stop-motion action. Too bad I'm away from the studio this month. Click through for more pictures of this fantastic diorama.

Largo's Lair

Oh Largo...You've got a sweet pad in the Bahamas (seen here perfectly recreated by Mark of Falworth), an awesome yacht and a bitchin' hydrofoil. You seem to have it made, why did you have to go stealing nuclear bombs and threatening everybody? You could have spent your remaining years lounging in luxury, now you've got 007 on your trial...good luck with that.
